She graduated from high school in 1982 and enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College in Honolulu. She was active as an athlete in cross country running and a member of the basketball team, winning the Alaska state championship with her team in 1982. She married Todd Palin and together they have five children: Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. She has lived in Skagway, Eagle River and Wasilla.
